There are many applications for phones and developers come out with new ones all the time. Some of them are silly and frivolous while others are very practical and useful. And there are those that are controversial, like mobile spy software for Symbian based phones.
So, can this software spy on Symbian phones? Technically, yes, it can. But that is a very simplistic answer that fails to address the complexities and uses of the software.
Let’s start with the legality issue. This software isn’t illegal and it doesn’t allow you to break the law. You can’t use it to spy on Symbian based phones that belong to your friends or co-workers. Nor you can use it to hack into computers or intercept calls from other Symbian OS phones. Furthermore, you can only install it on a Symbian OS based phone that you own. It is illegal to install it on a Symbian phone that you don’t own.
But what if someone installs it on someone else’s phone? A person that does that is committing a crime and it takes stealing the other person’s phone to do it. Imagine a car. A car is not illegal per se. But if a person uses the car to destroy other people’s property, then the person is breaking the law. It’s the person at fault, not the object.
The software can spy on Symbian based phones in the sense that you can get information out of phones that you own. It can’t spy on phones that belong to others, and thus you can’t invade the privacy of other people.
What’s the point of the software then? Well, it is to protect your family or your company.
In the first case, you use the software to keep track of your children. Most children do not buy their own phones, but it is us as parents who pay for them, so they are legally ours. That way, we can know where our children are, who they are hanging out with, and find out if they are in trouble.
Employers also use the software on phones that the company owns but that employees use. That way, they can track down employees that are stealing or leaking information to the competitors.
So, as you can see. The software can spy on Symbian phonesin the sense of getting information from your own phones and for your own protection. It’s not the hacking device that some people make it sound like.
