EU’s main privacy watchdog has expressed displeasure with Microsoft’s new privacy controls that the company announced last month and plans to ship with Windows 10 Creators Update, scheduled for launch later in April.
The agency’s concerns were included in a letter the agency sent Microsoft last week, obtained by Bleeping Computer and embedded at the end of this article.
The agency in question is WP29 (Article 29 Data Protection Working Party), which includes representatives from data protection authorities from all EU member states.
The WP29 privacy watchdog was the agency that first alerted Microsoft about its intrusive user data collection practices last year, through a similar open letter.
That letter, and possible looming sanctions, forced Microsoft’s hand to introduce controls to allow users to disable at least some of the data collection mechanisms included with Windows 10.
